Speechless the Magazine

To render. Be rendered. Awestruck. Awesome.
A magazine of poetry and related arts straight from L.A.

Early Bloomers

Featured Young Poet — Stephen Pritchard, age 13

In spite of my thoughts, and second thoughts, expressed in Poetry and the News, such anthologies can bring to light some affecting poems around which our emotions can coalesce. The following appears on www.poetsforthetsunamivictims.org.

The Cobra

The water
coils back
like a snake
before it strikes

The children run
                                    out
                                               to catch the
                                                                            stranded fish

But like a snake the water comes
                                                                            The head
                                                                            The fangs
                                    devouring
the little children

But now
unlike
a snake
it keeps going
                                    doesn’t stop
doesn’t stop
